“The universe is made of stories, not of atoms.” - Muriel Rukeyser

The first humans that flew far enough away from earth in order to see it in full were the crew of Apollo 8 in 1968. When the commander of the mission, Frank Borman, witnessed this magnificent site, he was quoted in saying, “This must be what God sees.”

The psychological shift that Borman, and now many other astronauts have gone through after seeing the earth from space is known as the ‘overview effect’.

While art may not be able to replicate the physical trip to space, perhaps it can at least remind us that the earth, and everything that lives on it, are all connected.
